These Senators are Unsung Heroes. Great cars that are very underrated - even when there was more of them on Britain's streets in the 1990s. Though they weren't really common, the fact that the Police forces used them made people think that. Vauxhall only sold around 30,000 Senators in the seven years in production.

I kept mine 13 years, from new. It blew away the opposition, yet became a Gentlemans' carriage on demand. Since then A6, A8, A6, SL500, Jaguars- several of each, but the Senator was the best of them all. I gave it away to a guy that loved it and it survives in his hands and prospers. That seemed better to me than some of the other fates that could have overtaken it. My main memory is the way it left the badge snobs in the dust. The 3 litres performed like 4+ and road holding was astounding. The only thing it could not handle was snow, but neither can the BMW and Merc models of today. Was brilliant on ice though. Nine of my later cars were AWD and I still run one A8, one A6, and three Jaguar X-types and I am pleased to see that an AWD Jaguar XJ is on the way. BUT it is still the Senator that holds my affection.

I think it's a bit harsh to judge the Micra without even having driven one.

A few years ago I needed a cheap car when I began a new job. A friend was selling one, so I decided to buy it. £25 a month in petrol as opposed to £70 in bus fares, it more than paid for itself.

Yes, the handling was a bit naff due to its rather upright stance, but it was surprisingly nippy for it's 1.0 badge. I'd be interested to see how it's 1.3 cousins performed.

She finally succumbed to old age and went for scrap. Gone, but definitely not forgotten!

I admire you so much for writing this for the silent voices of these poor boys. As we can see by some of the comments, these people can hardly write english let alone speak it! Because they don't understand they have to be abusive because they don't want to seem to be as thick as a plank, which actually, they are! Yes we are all entitled to our opinion but not to scare people so much that they can't be themselves and as we can see, kill themselves because of it. There are a lot of things I don't like or agree with but my consience is clear, no one ever died because i didn't like them or what they do. For all of you helped in the murder of these boys, your time will come, it may not be soon, but one day you'll know you've be repaid for the terrible things you have done. Rest in Peace, let your spirts be free.

I think the Metrobus sounded better and had more character than the optare equivelant. The metrobus had better styling too. I have many fond memories of the Metrobus. I cant beleive that most of them are gone forever. At least some have been preserved. What a waste of a classic vehicle. 2743 A743WVP is still alive in a yard in Willenhall you may be glad to hear, and she looks in pretty good shape. Still got the West Midlands Travel stickers on too. Old school. I dont know what they intend to do with her. Hopefully she will live to fight on as a reminder of her sisters. The same yard also has an ex L.R.T mk1 Metrobus too T reg still red too. I will pay them a visit to ask some questions and take photos. Long live the Metrobus. Cheers bus lovers.
